Calling all homebodies!!!

We all know that we need consistent daily exercise for optimal health, no?

But for some of us, getting to the gym every day, or even a few times a week is difficult to manage. 

When I was younger, stopping at the gym on the way home from work was not a big deal at all.

Now, though, I’m homeschooling four kids, making most of our food from beyond scratch, and have approximately 27,000 homestead chores to complete each day.  Spending time at the gym just doesn’t make sense for our family right now. 

Besides, I really like to be at home.  I’m a homebody at heart.  It makes me really happy to stay home in my yoga pants with my herbal tea, homemade chocolate, 9 barn cats, 4 wild outdoor children, and a podcast.  Basically, it’s heaven on earth for this little hermit.  (all the emojies)

But the fact is, I need to get proper exercise as much as the next person, hermit or not.  

Maybe you’re able to find a bits of time to get away for a walk or run by yourself or with a friend down the county roads or round your subdivision, but even this can be difficult to work into the flow of our days.

For me, the best I can do right now is to carve out a few minutes in the morning after my Bible study and before the whole of humanity is at my kitchen counter demanding breakfast.  I’ve got to be able to pull out a video or drop down on my yoga mat in my pajamas and get right to it!

The problem with this is that I’ve got a pretty finicky back problem.  Now that I’m past the knealing-down-to-change-diapers, lifting-heavy-baby-boys-out-of-cribs, carrying-screaming-toddlers-up-the-stairs phase of life, my back doesn’t bother me too much…

UNLESS I exercise.

It does not seem to matter what exercise video I try, I always end up tweaking my back, which leads to a week of skipping exercise all together, which is, of course, followed by pretty minimal motivation to get back to it once I’m feeling better.

It’s an unfortunate cycle and it’s where I am often stuck, frustrated because I know the only way to really heal my back is to strengthen my core.  Yet every time I do any core exercises I hurt my back.  Grrr…
