My personal, eclectic, big-vision philosophy for our homeschool education.

Are you ready?

To gain an affection for everything that is true, good, and beautiful – by chasing after the spectacular GLORY of God – together – every day.

THAT is my heart’s desire and my vision for homeschooling.

Are you wondering what on earth that looks like?

We follow a classical method for homeschooling, Charlotte Mason style – mostly.

And this is a little picture of what it looks like for us:

Taking part in the care and restoration of creation. (i.e. farm chores 🙂 )

Learning to milk a goat, crochet, cartwheel, play the piano, and identify the birds outside our window.

Catching frogs, playing fairies in the woods, pushing little brothers on the rope swing, “skating” on our giant frozen puddles, breathing fresh air and soaking up sunshine.

Laundry parties, because laundry is life man.  The sooner they figure that out, the better.

Practicing math facts and phonics on a blanket out on the grass under our favorite tree.

Reciting poetry to the barn cats on warm afternoons.

Looking for September spider webs covered in dew.

Wednesdays at Grandma’s house – because we all want to grow up to be like her someday – and we figure, we actually might if we hang out with her enough.

Snuggling up on the couch together to read great books, written by great minds, about every good thing there is to know – together.

Freedom to do whatever is in the best interest of any particular child at any particular moment.

It’s about tears and selfishness and forgiveness and friendship.

It’s about belonging to each other on good days and bad days, learning how to live together in this little. tiny. house. every. single. day… even days that require earplugs and chocolate.

Now, I know what you’re thinking.

That’s nice, but you’d like some practical help, no?

Well, I’m not exactly one of those Type-A, colors-inside-the-lines type of homeschool moms.

I’m more of a doodles-upside-down-and-backward-all-over-the-page kind of homeschool mom.

I have absolutely nothing to offer you here in the way of planners, organizers, chore-charts, boxed curriculum sets, or anything else that makes me feel confined and panicky.  There are so many other lovely blogs for that kind of thing… LOTS of them!

No. What I have to offer you is hope.

Hope, inspiration, lots of good resources, and of course some really great booklists!

Because, come on.  Reading on the couch for an hour with my littles every morning in our pajamas is – hands down – my very favorite thing about homeschooling.

Mama, you can do this!

It doesn’t matter if you are organized, love to plan, or have a teaching certificate.

It doesn’t matter if you know a single other person on earth who has ever even heard of homeschooling.

God gave your child to YOU.  On purpose.

God loves you.  He knows your circumstances, your personality, your child’s difficulties.  He will meet you there.  Ask Him to lead you.  Ask Him even to stop you in your tracks if homeschooling is not His intention for your family.

And then take a step.  Any step.  He’s got you.  And He’s got such good plans for your family.

If you feel that God is calling you to teach your family from home, He will equip you to do it!

And it’s my intention to provide you with as much encouragement and practical help as I can to get you started, or keep you going, or just to chase away the mid-year blues.
