What happened to the Nourishing Goodness Blog?

Twins!  That’s what happened.  And boy did they knock us off our feet!

I began this blog in 2017, mostly because it was heavy on my heart to share Our Eczema Story… the story of how our daughter’s severe eczema sent us on a long, winding journey that ended not only in healing for her, but in an entirely different lifestyle for our family.

We learned so much on that journey, most of it the hard way, and I wanted a place where I could compile all of the hard-earned resources I wished I had access to back in 2012 when we were desperately searching for answers. More and more, friends and family were asking for help or referring friends who needed help with their own eczema, food sensitivities, or other mysterious health problems.

At the same time, we were the first of our friends to homeschool and once that bug caught on, I had lots of questions to answer about the ins and outs of that too.

And, you guessed it, once we started our homestead in 2014 (though at the time we really had no idea what we were doing) the questions started rolling in.

Maybe this sounds like I thought I was quite the expert on all of these things, but it was actually very much the opposite. We were simply thrown into the deep end, learning almost everything the hard way, mostly a step or two before many of our friends and family (or more often, the friends and family of our friends and family) found themselves or their loved ones in similar situations.

I wanted to freely share everything we had learned and were learning, but began to find it impossible, and often unfruitful to schedule an increasing number of coffee dates to meet this demand. It seemed like everybody had a sister-in-law, or neighbor, or friend of a friend I just HAD to talk to about goats, or homeschooling, or eczema, or… That’s when the idea for this blog was born. I needed a cozy little place where I could write out ~ all the things ~ and then simply make it available for others who might benefit from it.

I can’t tell you how disheartening it is to go through the effort of gathering research and resources and spending an entire evening away from my family spelling out the steps of… gut-healing for instance, only to have the person leave with a shrug and a, “Wow, that sounds great, but I’m not really up for doing any of that.”

The coffee dates had to end.

So I spent about a year trying to figure out how on earth this whole blogging thing actually works, and then a few months happily blogging away anytime I could snatch a minute.

That is until I got the shock of a lifetime!!

In August of 2018 I found out that I was pregnant, not with one baby (as I naturally suspected) but with TWO!

TWO BABIES!

At the same time!

Aren’t they PRECIOUS!?

And all of a sudden I found myself in the midst of double morning sickness, double fatigue, double brain-fog, double overwhelm… and this little blog (along with life in general) came to screeching halt.

Now, a year and a half later, our family of 8 is beginning to settle into our new normal. I’ve slept through the night almost as many times as I can count on one hand and we’re learning how to do this whole homesteading, homeschooling, holistic-living thing with two chubby toddlers underfoot. It isn’t always pretty, but it’s usually hilarious.

For real, they NEVER stop moving!

Anyway, I considered taking the blog down because it was painfully obvious that I won’t ever have any “free time” ever, ever again. But then I considered that maybe I could continue to share here in bits and pieces… in a much less polished, maybe even less coherent, probably unedited, but possibly still encouraging and helpful way.

Things change so quickly. In 2012 I had to DIG to find out what was the matter with my little girl and how to fix it. And once I did, people mostly thought I was nuts. Now as we head into 2020, a lot of what I learned then is becoming common knowledge. Maybe it’s not necessary for me to add my voice to so many others. And yet it seems good to share what I can.

So, I’m planning to try to post here with helpful resources and encouragement when I’m able ~ hopefully ~ if I can manage it without stealing from my house-full of responsibilities, my sweet little people, my time with the Lord, my quiet moments to read and reflect. If not, well then, you’ll know what happened to the Nourishing Goodness Blog.

Much love,
